I am the treasurer of the Germania Society which hold the oldest and most authentic Oktoberfest in Southwestern Ohio.  It is in late August which was chosen so it would be before the kids went back to school or so we could get it over with and then enjoy the other festivals throughout the fall...

I am a member of the Greater Cincinnati Blues Society.  We did a little fund raiser for the Katrina Storm victims at Germania Park which I helped run.

Downtown Cincinnati has a little Oktoberfest (about 200K people attend).  Germania has a booth there called the Germania Schnitzel Haus.  Since I did not get to any of the real work at our Oktoberfest (as treasurer all I do is count the results of other peoples work) I decided to volunteer to run the booth downtown.

then there are a couple of Pig Roasts that I help out at...

All of this (except the Blues Society benefit) were in place before I took a real job 120 miles from home.  Alas, even before that I was not a very good blogger.  Now... well I am headed to Florida for Rob and Liz's wedding.  

It is a tough life is it not???

Ed Brill has publically acknowledged that he was recruited by Microsoft and he has taken exception to the eWeek coverage by Shelley Solheim.  The fact that Microsoft is actively recruiting is no secret.  That there are successes is no secret.  The failures of their recruiting are very rarely discussed.  

I suggest that I am one of those failures...

On a lighter side I am holding my own at PaiGow poker and have lost about $25 on the slots all week.  One more night like the last three, and I might be able to afford a set of new Bose Noise Cancelling headphones....  Hmmm.....

Early this morning, as I stood by the window of the fabulous room the Advisor folks put me up in while I am presenting at this conference, I reflected on the senses that Frank Herbert brought us in Dune.  It was already over 95 degrees F.  The expectation is that they will set a new record for the fourth or fifth day in a row today, topping out somewhere above 116 degrees.  At 6:30 AM the sprinklers came on to water the trees, grass and shrubs that have no natural reason to be here except that the irrigation systems allow them to survive.  Would it not be better to have zero vegetation outside because, after all, it is too damn hot to got out there????
